3.4 Seed and Fruit Formation

- the pollen that lands on the stigma grows a pollen tube down to the ovules
- the pollen (male nucleus) travels down the tube to join with an ovule

Formations
1. Pollen nucleus fertilises with the ovule
    --> forms Zygote/Embryo

2. Outside of ovule forms a seed coat

3. Cotyledons form - food source of seedling

4. Thickening of ovary --> fruit  (sugar + protein)

3.3b Wind Pollination

Pollen from the Anther --> Stigma of another flower

Pollen Grain adaptations for wind to carry:
- light weight
- anthers exposed to wind / away from the flower (no blockage)
- stigma with large Surface Area (to catch pollen in the wind)

Does not need to attract insects, so no colour/scent/fructose

3.3a Insect Pollination

Pollination
The transfer of pollen from the Anther (male nuclei) to the Stigma of another flower.

Attracts insects for pollination (insects will cary the pollen from one to another):
Signals - coloured petals
             - Scents
Value   - food nectaries/fructose
             - pollen protein
